That's me...VBB...a Very Bad Blogger.

I haven't posted in forever (duh).

I've barely kept up with my favorite blogs (I'm sorry!) though if I have, I have been horrible at leaving comments (again, I'm sorry!).

But it's not because I don't love all of you... I do. And I miss blogging! I really do! There have been times I really felt like I needed to write about something, to vent or process or just share a funny story. Yet there were days I tried and didn't have the right words. But I do miss it. And all of you. :)

So I promise to be back soon with some good stuff...including some Christmasy pictures and some good stories- including a CrushGate update! (No, he hasn't professed his love for me.) I will also try to get caught up on blogs... although to complicate matters further my internet is defunct at the moment, so I'm using my fancy phone to write this! Sweet!

Blogging Mishap & a Lesson Learned

My friend Nacole loves stamping, scrapbooking, card making.... in short, crafty things. Last week, she decided to start a new blog to showcase some of her handmade greeting cards and stationary. I've received many of her cards over the last couple of years, so trust me when I say they're super cute. Anyway, last week she was very excited about uploading pictures to her newly created page. I had called her on my way home from work one to chat about some things and ended up talking to her for much longer than expected, so I was a little surprised when I got another phone call from her not long after we hung up.

me: Hello?
Nacole: I just did something really dumb you're going to laugh at.
me: Really? What?
Nacole: Are you near your computer? Go to your blog.
me: Erm, OK.{brief pause while I navigated to the site}
Nacole: Um, I think that you were still logged into Picasa on my laptop...so um...I think I ended up uploading my pictures to your web album....
me: Oh, OK.
Nacole: ....and I just posted something on your blog. {It was then that I reached my blog and burst out laughing!}

There it was. A blog post definitely not "created by heidi." I told Nacole I thought it was so funny I just had to to save the screen shot...and blog about it, of course! She explained that she had been so confused by what happened, but in a few minutes we had it sorted out. I deleted her pictures from my Picasa web album (apparently it had kept me logged in when I had uploaded some things while on vacation), deleted her blog post, and together we logged me out of everything.

Or so we thought. Since Blogger, GMail, and Picasa are all Google family members, it seemed that being logged into one account technically kept me logged into another. I knew this, but usually it worked the same way for logging out- you log out of one, you log out of all. Not on Nacole's laptop. For some reason it just kept me logged in until finally she cleared her cache and I changed my password. Whew. She finally got her pictures uploaded to her own Picasa account and blog. She's had no problems since!

The moral of the story is this: make sure that when you check email, blog accounts, whatever, from someone's computer, the "Remember me" or "Keep me logged in" box is NOT checked. Make sure to always log out. And if the person is OK with it, you may want to clear out their cache or cookies. {Always a good idea on a public computer!}

I'm just glad it was my good friend who had access to my pictures, blog account, and email account!!

I love catalogs. I do. I have always loved them. I remember a game my friend and I used to play... we'd get the big catalog from JCPenney and we'd go through and "furnish" our dream houses. We'd write down or flag page numbers of bedroom sets, living rooms, kitchens, you name it. And slowly we'd build our dream homes...seriously, these were basically mansions!

Even now, when I get a catalog I have to flip through it a number of times before I feel like I've really looked at everything. Apparently I'm not the only one - I've realized lots of DIY bloggers use the catalogs for inspiration and ideas, which is great...

But haven't you ever looked at a catalog and wondered what they were thinking? Some of the layouts and accessories are just weird. They're just asking to be made fun of. Which is why I love this new blog, Catalog Living. I added it to my sidebar a few weeks ago, but I'm not sure if any of you ever check those out...

Anyway, it's funny and is the brainchild of Molly Erdman, an actor, writer, and all-around funny person. You may have seen her on Sonic commercials (also kinda funny). She basically creates these stories about "the exciting lives of the people who live in your catalogs."   Here are a few samples from her blog (as always, click to enlarge):

Love it! That one makes me think of a friend of mine- I am sure he would do something like that to be funny and/or passive-aggressive!!

Seriously...why else would you have a giant ball of string sitting around?

The last one is probably one of my all-time favorites. It makes me laugh every time...how ridiculous is it to tack pages to a wall?? Plus, it reminds me of a conversation N and I had about making a spare room feel homey for your guests!

Happy Belated Blogoversary to Me!

I had the best intentions to celebrate my Blogoversary... or at the very least shout out a "Happy Blogoversary To Me!" On time, that is. Oh well.

At any rate, my wee little blog is one year old. I can't really believe it's been a year since I started this thing. Ah, such a humble beginning. I mention it now because I'm approaching so many one-year anniversary dates... I defended the diss nearly a year ago (the 19th)... left the Evil Empire and the Wicked Witch nearly a year ago (technically the 18th was my last day)... and on and on. I may or may not end up subjecting you to some reminiscing posts in the near future...

I also couldn't help but notice that after my wee little blog was started, some other blogs were started... like my sister Kim's blog, Kim's Spot. Kim shares craft projects, recipes, and funny stories about her kiddos. I dig the Word of the Week feature. 

My sister Amber's blog, A Little Bit of Everything, chronicles her trials and tribulations being a student in a Physician's Assistant program... yup, she discusses things like makin' it through her first male genital-rectal exam and a newfound love of her Neti Pot. Honestly, I think I have a harder time with the Neti Pot. Ew.

Then there's my brother Brad's new blog Project Metamorphosis. (I can't help it, sometimes I accidentally say Project Runway...even though I don't even watch that show!) Anyway Brad is working hard on becoming the best person he can be- spiritually, physically, emotionally- and is sharing his steps along the way. Personally, I'm excited for him to share some of the awesome food he eats (hint, hint).

Finally, my good friend N recently started her blog, N's Wonderful World. N does a lot of scrapbooking and stamping and card making. And she's dang good at it too! You should go check out her super-cute Valentine's cards here. So stinkin' cute. Anyway, she writes a lot about her crafty projects, food, and whatever else strikes her fancy.  

I love reading these blogs (in addition to all those other blogs I read and love). I love seeing what everyone is up to, but I'm one of the youngest in a large family, so I'm coming from that place when I say, "I had a blog first!" :-D
