Watching Paint Dry (May Be Hazardous to Your Health)

You know that expression, "It's about as fun as watching paint dry?" Well last night, when I put paint on my bedroom walls, it WAS fun watching it dry!

Let me back up... I ended up taping my paint chips to my bedroom walls the other day, in two different spots to account for lighting differences. I stared at the chips on Sunday and Monday at various points...my life is glamorous, don't be jealous...and narrowed it down to two colors.

French Silver, by far the popular favorite!

And Pebble Grey. In some light Pebble Grey ended up looking lighter than the French Silver, but at other times, a little darker and a little more tan.

Last night after work I got some samples and couldn't wait to get them up on the wall! I decided to paint a "square" (they ended up more like blobs than anything) for each color in three different spots on my wall. And then I watched the paint dry for a bit. I was so excited...

But then...as it dried it looked ... bluish...

I think the craptastic yellow EVERYWHERE is pulling out the blue tones in the paint...or maybe my retinas are burned forever.

I know the paint is grey...look... ah, so loverly...

I know this isn't the best picture (taken with my phone) but ... am I crazy? Don't these look bluish or purple-y? They definitely don't look very grey in person...and I'm a little worried! Granted, I've been mostly looking at these spots on the wall in artificial light, but I'm nervous I'm not going to get a good read on the colors.

(By the way, the edges are "feathered" so you don't have ridges when you paint over...a neat little trick I read about on Young House Love!)

Any thoughts? Should I go over the wall with some white primer and repaint some sample spots? Take the plunge and pick one of the colors, possibly without having a good read on it? Let the sample spots sit there while I prep and begin painting the inside of the closet, the doors, the ceiling, and the trim....to see if cutting down on yellowpalooza helps?

Help!

Oh, I see what you mean about the blue/purple. I'm not sure, I guess I'd prime it with a tinted primer. Did you already buy that? I think you could just take it back in to Home Depot and see if they will add some tint. Or call first. I think they do that all the time now. Oh, and I love the silver candlestick from your earlier post. Beautiful! You always find such good things! I've taught you well.

Finding beautiful things is just silly luck sometimes. I never have much when it comes to the bigger stuff...like tables and things.

As for the paint, I really was just wanting to see it on the walls and in the light, so I didn't get any tinted primer yet. It really helped in the green room, so I will do it in this room too. I just wasn't really expecting the yellow to be so strong against the grey. Sigh.

on the paint, definitely prime it first. i will need to do the same thing, although my yellow isn't quite as craptastic as yours!

Don't say "never"...you found something at my Goodwill that one time!

But should I prime (or Kilz for now) a spot on my wall for a sample right now? Yes, eventually I will get tinted primer...

Heids, I think you need to kilz it or use some what if you have it. Kilz will work. Let it dry good and then paint blobs. You will see quite a difference.

The French Silver has blue tones in it....but the yellow could be brining it out a lot more. You might want to prime a section and see what happens...
