The Bed Post

I'm just dying to revamp my bedroom. Remember Funshine Bear from the Care Bears?

Super cute and cuddly. I used to have one when I was young. Love the color on Funshine Bear...not so much regurgitated in my bedroom. My bedroom walls, ceiling, inside of the door, closet doors, baseboard. All Funshine Bear yellow. And the curtains that were left behind have these purple flowers on them. I have mismatched bedding. It's a mess, which is why I'm dying to change it up and create a lovely, comfy, oasis for myself. Something that makes me say, "Ahhhhh." when I walk in.

Obviously, the bed is the most important thing... doesn't this bed make you want to just jump in? It's all fluffy-looking. And layered. And comfortable.

This bed doesn't look as fluffy, but I do sort of like the purple fabrics, the different textures, and the layers. I'm also considering purple in my room.

Love the light, airy feel to this room. Here again is a bed I would love to just jump into. I'm also diggin' the turquoise.

Hello cloud-like bed!

I love all the lights here...and the layers and textures. I actually would love that wall color in my dining room...

I think the common factors here are layers and textures, fluffiness, and a lived-in comfortable look. I think I also like the combination of solids and patterns.

What else do you think makes the bed (pun intended)?? A headboard? Certain sheets? Do tell... I'd love to hear!

My dream room will also have:
  • a place for my books, including some space on or in the bedside tables. I'm constantly stacking books and magazines all over the table and eventually they overflow to the floor.
  • higher bedside tables (my bed is pretty high) and good (and pretty) lamps.
  • curtains or shades that block light at night (I love a dark bedroom), but don't make the room feel like a dark cave during the day.
I want the room to feel lighter and brighter than it does now, but I think repainting the ceiling, trim, and doors white will help with that right away. Obviously having some accessories in the room will be good, but that will come in time. Plus, I don't want it to be overdone or cluttered.

The bedding will help me finally, finally pick a wall color. Though I have been wanting to paint my room grey (or is it gray??) for like a year...

So. Any tips? What else makes a bedroom a relaxing oasis?

Let's just do it. I am so anxious to get it done. I think gray would be nice.

I knew that one was an IKEA bedding set! I was eyeing it when we were there last! I think you have great ideas and should pick the bedding before the paint color. We did it that way too! Light blueish/grayish walls with a brown duvet in the winter and a brown bedspread in the summer.

What finished up our bedroom was a rug, since we have hard wood, new side tables and lamps from IKEA and crisp white curtins from Target. The skys the limit with bedrooms so have fun! It is where you spend a lot of your time! :o)

I LOVE that bedroom set from IKEA. You should totally get it! I definitely think a bed needs a headboard, either DIY or purchased. I made my headboard (with mom's help) and I think it looks great! It's nice to lean up against it too when reading a book in bed! I definitely agree that you should pick the bedding before picking a wall color. And take your time picking the wall color... even try samples on the walls. I have hated my bedroom wall color since the day I finished painting it! I like the idea of a light grey though- it's neutral and you'd be able to match a ton of colors with it. Good luck!

You've picked out lovely pictures! Now, just to recreate them in your space. That's the fun part. I must be so behind the times. I think you pick the paint color first and then you'll find bedding to match. Maybe it's just me, but I want to already change my bedding after 1 year but I'm sure not going to paint again! I will just have to find bedding to match the walls in both the bathroom and bedroom. Yup, you've got to love the paint color. Bedding is easier to change. Whenever you want some help, let us know.
